I would not like to be described as Imran’s shadow - Bollywood star Aamir Khan
Some time ago, Aamir Khan was called as a retired from the Bollywood Industry, but now, audiences are used to seeing Aamir, as moving smoothly over a red carpet in shining Bollywood evening parties.
In many prestigious award functions Aamir Khan proved himself as a dedicated actor, producer, and director.
And with his third home production, “Jaane Tu…Ya Jaane Na“, Aamir proves that he is the master of all activities of cinema. In an interview, Aamir told about himself and future plans.
Ques : After doing Lagaan, your stars are shining bright. What do you think about your astrologers?
Aamir : I don’t know about it, and we have done our best to make a good film. And I’m very happy with the way it’s turned out.
Ques : This is your first home production in which you have not worked. Did Taare Zameen Par take a lot of your time or did Ghajini?
Aamir : When I was directing Taare Zameen Par, Jaane Tu was being shot. So when I completed TZP, I realized that I’d not be able to take whole responsibility as a producer of Jaane Tu… .I did not think of acting in it because the casting is done by director. Then I requested Mansoor to take care of the production and he was there looking after the cast during the shoot stages.
Ques : You behave like Imran’s shadow. Then what was the reason for your absence in London?
Aamir : I have been doing my job of promoting Jaane Tu… . so I would not like to be described as Imran’s shadow. In fact, I’m the shadow of Jaane Tu… I had not come to London because I was not free, I was shooting for Ghajini at that time.
Ques : We know that before you could say yes to Abbas, you gave some scenes to him to shoot for Jaane Tu… . Have you now started screen testing of directors?
Aamir : Due to my experience on TZP, I told Abbas to shoot five scenes to see how he workes as a director. I requested Abbas because he had never directed a film before. But if there was an experienced director, I would not have done that.
Ques : What if you did not like that five scenes? Was any back up ready, or you prepared himself for the directors seat?
Aamir : If any of the five scenes were not well directed by Abbas, I would not have gone forward with the project. And that is true, but Abbas done very well.
Ques : In 1988, you and Raj Zutshi used to stick the posters of Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak on the auto-rickshaws outside Mithibai College in Mumbai by stopping them. How much do you think marketing will do in the near future?
Aamir : I think all the things have been changing dramatically now. In 1988, there was only one channel, Doordarshan, and no so much reporting on entertainment the front pages of newspapers. But entertainment has now become a huge part of reporting and news with a lot of means of marketing.
Ques : In your all films from the Lagaan, Rang De Basanti, Taare Zameen Par and now Jaane Tu have seen fresh young faces. Is that anything you’d want to see with all your films or you being a part of it?
Aamir : I think it really depends on script and it’s requirement. You’re forgetting that I did Fanaa with Kajol, Mangal Pandey with Rani. And both of these were established star.
Ques : While Jaane Tu… was being made and after it’s completion, did it take you back to your days of QSQT?
Aamir : Not really. I think Jaane Tu is quite a different film in romantic mood and in starcast as compare to Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak. But to see Mansoor behind the camera, remember met the QSQT days.
Ques :There are many successful music directors like Pritam and Vishal Shekhar on the top of their field, then Why did you select AR Rahman?
Aamir : You don’t think AR Rahman is on top of his field? I am very happy with the music he has given to Jaane Tu and I’m so glad that he is a part of the film. But I have worked with other people as Shankar Ehsaan Loy in TZP. But as I told you earlier, it depends on project and requirement.
Ques : In this movie, We have seen Imran wearing the same yellow striped tie you wore in Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikandar. What else has he nicked from your wardrobe?
Aamir : He keeps collecting my jackets, t-shirts and other stuff. But yes, that was the same tie I wore in my film, Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikandar.
